New Delhi: Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has said that Virat Kohli will continue to score runs despite being no longer the captain of the team. He rubbished speculations of a rift between Rohit Sharma and the former captain.
Earlier, in December last year, Kohli had also fueled the rumors that he had a tussle with Rohit. He said that when he was addressing the press, he was tired of answering the same question over and over again.
Because later Kohli played under Rohit for the first time in ODI cricket. Rohit took over the captaincy of India in India’s first ODI against West Indies in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Gavaskar told Star Sports, why would he not be getting Kohli’s support? He is playing for India. All these things of mismatch between two players are always speculations.
“You will not even bother about such speculations, because you yourself know what is true,” he said. Really nothing.
Gavaskar said that it is not that Kohli will not think of performing well under Rohit’s captaincy.
Gavaskar said, there is often speculation that the captain who is now a player in the team may not want the new captain to be successful. This is nonsense. Because if he doesn’t score runs or any bowler doesn’t take a wicket then he will be out of the team.
Gavaskar said, whether kohli is playing under Rohit or someone else, he will get runs . He is going to score runs for India.
In the three-match series india have taken a 1-0 lead and will look to finish the ODI series when they take on West Indies in Ahmedabad in the second ODI on Wednesday.
